Abstract
This study evaluated the deformation strength (So) of warm-mix asphalt (WMA) and hot-mix asphalt (HMA) and mixtures by compaction temperature (CT). A total of eight binders were prepared and used; a base asphalt (normal HMA binder), a normal WMA binder using a WMA additive, three modified HMA and three modified WMA binders using three polymers (SA, SB and LV). Using these eight binders and maximum sizes of 13 mm and 19 mm granite aggregates, a total of 80 mixtures were prepared at 5 CTs; 135, 145, 155, 165 and 175°C for HMA and 105, 115, 125, 135 and 145°C for WMA. The So of WMA concretes was increased by increasing compaction temperature. The result of this study showed that the minimum compaction temperatures could be determined for each mixtures based on Sd specification limit (>3.2 MPa for normal mixture and >4.25 MPa for PMA mixture)
