Deteriorations of pavement on the approach slab that connects the bridge and pavement section have been frequently generating. The objectives of this research are to find the main sources that can cause pavement deteriorations. This research investigated the causes of pavement distresses on the approach slab and suggested possible maintenance approaches. According to the on-site investigation, the cracking of slab, the displacement of abutment and the void under the slab is found mainly. The big void is mainly found by the loss of backfill materials more than the void of slab. From the result of the IRI survey results of approach slab, it is examined that the standard distance of IRI survey on the approach slab is 20m. The maximum settlement is found between buffer slab and pavement.
