Information
The asphalt concrete in the pavement is know to have an air void of 4% for provide proper serviceability after 2-3 years in service. However, to provide a waterproofing function for the pavement on the bridge deck, the lower air void pavement can be used if the asphalt concrete provide proper serviceability as well. Therefore, a special asphalt concrete, which is designated as GMA mix with a near-zero air void (void-free), was developed with PG82-34 binder and evaluated for crack-related properties in this study. The GMA mix showed the highest deformation strength (SD), pseudo fracture toughness and flexural strength at low-temperature. Therefore, it was concluded that the GMA mix could be used properly for the pavement on the bridge deck, where a waterproofing function and a high resistance against flexural and cracking are required.
