It was evaluated that the applicability of color aggregates made of mudstone in asphalt mixtures for bus lanes. The following conclusions were obtained. Mudstone aggregates were not having cracks in the direction of stratification and could be produced as 1st grade aggregates with a flat and elongated particles ratio of 5% or less. As a result of testing the soundness of colored aggregates, it was 4.1 to 4.5%. Therefore, the resistance to weathering due to freeze-thaw was 2 to 3 times better than the standard (12% or less). The abrasion rate was more than twice as good as the standard. The colored aggregates had an excellent adhesion to asphalt with a coverage ratio of 67% higher than the spesification of 50% after dynamic immersion test. The gradation of the colored aggregate could be produced in accordance with the standards of nominal maximum size of 13 mm and 10 mm. However, it was difficult to aggregates screening when dust was collected by spraying water during crushing. Therefore, a dry removal method using a back house was required.
