Abstract

This study is a research of economically optimal cross-sectional restoration for early damage to asphalt pavement on highways. Most highways are asphalt paved, and many early damage occurs when the wheel path of the vehicle. There are various conditions that cause premature damage, but most of the forms may appear to be cracks, rutting (plastic deformations), and potholes. These early damages have been a factor in reducing the smoothness of roads and causing traffic accidents. This study analyzed the form of premature damage of asphalt pavement through domestic and foreign literature. It also analyzed the shape of asphalt section repair in 25 km of a highway in Seoul Korea. As a result of this study, the optimal economical cross section repair method is considered to be the most economical and reasonable method of repair for the part where the wheel part of the vehicle passes. However, the final selection of the maintenance method was made by selecting the method of cutting and overlaying the entire width of the road. The choice of this construction method is attributed to the convenient construction of existing equipment centered on this construction method of construction.
