Information
When the hot-mix asphalt (HMA) binder is aged during a short period, the asphalt binder is hardened due to the large molecular size (LMS) molecule increase. It has been well known fact that the LMS increase results in increased viscosity and G*/sin 8 which are considered high-temperature properties of asphalt. However, the low-temperature property change due to the aging has not been estimated by the LMS measured by the gel permeation cliromatography (GPC). Therefore, this study was designed to examine the possibility of evaluating the low-temperature property change by the LMS. The properties included the stiffness and m-value measured by the bending beam rheometer (BBR). It was found that although the R2 values of the regression between LMS and the two properties were lower (R2 三子 0.79 on average) than those of viscosity and G*/sin d, the LMS could be used for estimation of the two properties. Therefore, it was concluded that the high and low temperature properties of asphalt could be predicted using LMS values with a good reliability
