Abstract
The deformation strength (Sd) by Kim test was evaluated in comparison with the final deformation (FD) of the repeated load creep (RLC) tests to examine its suitability for the rutting prediction of asphalt mixtures. Correlation of FD and Sd data for asphalt mixture with binder stiffness (G*/sin 8) data were evaluated by regression. A total of 16 asphalt mixtures (2 aggregates, 2 gradations and 8 binders) were prepared for the rutting tests at 60°C and the 8 binders were evaluated by DSR. Correlation analyses showed the Sd had very high correlation (R2 = 0.89) with the binder stiffness. These results indicated that Kim test is comparable to RLC test and that the SD is a property providing a reasonable estimation of the rut potential of asphalt mixtures at high temperatures.
