Analysis of waterborne epoxy modified emulsified asphalt properties & characteristics

Abstract

Using waterborne epoxy as a modifier to modify emulsified asphalt, a study of the changes in the physical properties with different ratio added of waterborne epoxy to the emulsified asphalt，combined with anti-skid composite sealing materials. A double mixture technology. Applying Infrared spectroscopy, DSC heat differential calorimeter, TG thermo gravimetric analysis methods to determine the effectiveness and performances of the waterborne epoxy modified emulsion asphalt. Test results show that when the waterborne epoxy added ratio of 30%, the modified emulsion asphalt significantly improved in hardness, adhesion, peeling & pulling strength, low temperature flexibility, heat and frost resistance. The Infrared spectroscopy shown the waterborne epoxy and the emulsified asphalt ideally composite hybridization. This paper base on a section of the Heyu Highway surface maintenance project further evaluate the benefits of waterborne epoxy modified emulsion asphalt acting as anti-skid composite sealing coating.
