Abstract
The skid resistance of the highway pavement is an important factor to evaluate the safety of the national highway. The purpose of this study is presenting the skid resistance characteristics in domestic highway pavement both the asphalt and concrete pavements. In this study, the skid resistance of highway pavement is measured in terms of the effects of pavement type, speed of traffic, volume of accumulated traffic and service period. The results of the skid resistance are analyzed and presented. The test of the skid resistance is conducted in accordance x with ASTM E274 using Locked Wheel Trailer. The results of the test show that skid resistance are pavement type dependent. The parameters of the dependency are the speed of the vehicle, accumulated traffic volume and period of the construction. The location of frequent accident is related to the loss of the skid resistance and the slope, alignment and surface condition also related to the loss of the skid resistance. The skid resistance of asphalt pavement is between 30-60 and concrete pavement is 40-60. The test results show that the skid resistance of the both pavements decrease with increasing the period of construction and the speed of vehicle.
