Abstract
Three kinds of polymer emulsion(NBR, NR, SBR) were added to emulsion asphalt for fortifying the physical properties of the asphalt and examined if the structure of the modifiers effect the property changes. As the nonionic surfactant was added to cationic surfactant in the process of preparing the asphalt emulsion, the contact angle of asphalt emulsion get larger, that is, the wetting decreased due to the increased surface tension. However, the size of the coalescent of modified asphalt were decreased. As the polymer emulsions were added the tensile strength were increased as low as 5.25% and as high as 8.33%. Meanwhile the sequence of magnitude of the tensile strength followed that of polymers themselves. The tensile elongation also increased by 4.55% upto 8.70%. Elasticity of the modified asphalt emulsion showed highest in the case which contained NR latex as a modifier, where the branch is methyl group. Resistancy against plastic deformation showed highest as well in NR-modified asphalt emulsion. Temperature corresponding to viscoelastic stress of SBR-modified asphalt emulsion showed 75°C which is the highest temperature among three kinds. Summing up almost most of physical properties of polymer-modified asphalt emulsion followed those of polymer itself
