Two kinds, cationic and anionic, of medium-setting emulsion asphalts were prepared; they were abbreviated as MS(C) and MS(A), respectively. Then three additives, stabilizer, setting modifier and polymer modifier, were sequentially added to the emulsion asphalts to see the effect of additives on the physical properties of the emulsion asphalts. MS(C) was effective on the high temperature properties, instead MS(A) was effective on low temperature properties. Setting modifier enhancecd the low temperature properties and polymer rather decreased the low temperature properties due to its thermoplastic nature.
