The roughness of pavement in the longitudinal direction is one of the most important factors when estimating the performance of pavement. Features of worldwidely used roughness measuring systems and principles of calculating pavement roughness indices which are PrI(Profile Index) and IRI(International Roughness Index) are described in detail and the correlation between the values measured by CP(Califbrnia Profilograph) and those by Longitudinal Profile Analyzer is examined. It is applied to develop the standard levels of pavement roughness for the highway pavement by IRI.
